Advanced Spring Cleaning

Another year in the books, and it's that time of year again. Spring Cleaning Season is upon us. We thought as a company that loves making your home beautiful, we’d give you a checklist to keep the projects we’ve done, looking brand new, for years to come! There’s a lot you can do in terms of cleaning your home this season, but we want to focus on the things that are outside the normal scope. So without anymore talk, let’s get into this.

First here’s the simple breakdown list of the 4 things to do on top of the typical, vacuuming, washing windows and counters.

  1. Upholstery Cleaning

  2. Carpet Cleaning

  3. Clear out old items/unused rooms

  4. Ensure Fire Safety

Upholstery Cleaning

We always focus on the floors and the dust, but we forget to think about some places of heavy use. Our couches, our sofas and beds. Not to be gross, but we want you to know the facts, your body sheds over 12 million skin cells each night you sleep, you can do the math on a year's worth of accumulation! Sleeping and sitting on your couch day in and out is cause for risks of discoloration, and attracting dust mites. We’d suggest getting these areas professionally cleaned, if you don’t know a place that does this, give us a call or call our partners at Rainbow Restoration (315.564.6000)

Carpet Cleaning

This one goes hand in hand with number 1, if you have someone helping with upholstery you can get your carpets cleaned as well! Going back into the use of your furniture the same goes for your floors if they’re carpeted. High traffic areas fall victim to dust and dirt from foot tracks even without shoes, over years the underside of your carpets accumulate a lot dirt and grime. A heavy shampoo or steam clean, could do the trick to revitalize and refresh your carpets.

Out with the Old….

We all struggle with this one. Keeping and buying way too much stuff to a degree of hoarding. Some big, some small. Every year you should make an effort to get rid of old stuff, and things you never touch. Not sure what belongs in the keep versus sell pile? Get a box, put all the “maybe” items in this. If you don’t go grabbing your item out of the box to use, then it can be put up for sale or donated. Clearing up the general room in your home is a great way to clean in the Spring.

Another great thing to do is find and focus on ontouched rooms, this could be a garage or spare bedroom. Sometimes we end up using them as storage and not for their actual purpose. Get your car back in the garage and not outside! Same for your guest bedroom, if you don’t have guests visiting often, turn it into an office, or creative space for art or music! The possibilities are endless!

Fire Safety Measures

This isn’t the definition of cleaning, but it's something that goes along with updating and revitalizing your home and its safety, especially if you have elderly or newborns in your home. Fire safety. This one seems like a no brainer, but you should change your fire detectors batteries twice a year, or recharge them. On top of this, you should refresh fire safety guides and escape routes, especially if you have kids that need directive. Being proactive with fires is the first and most important thing if they were to ever happen. If something were to ever happen and you need someone to work alongside insurance in the case of an unfortunate event like this, our partners at Rainbow would also serve you well, as well as our ability to reconstruct any fire damages.

With all this information, we of course hope you buy out the cleaning supply rack at your local store and get to cleaning your brand new home, or at least bring your home back to that fresh brand new state. We want to know if you plan to do any of the things we mentioned to go above and beyond this year with your Spring Cleaning. With that, we’ll leave you to your mop and broom, off the reading and on to cleaning. Get your home sparkling!
