It’s that time of year again and the snow will start again soon here in Upstate NY. Sometimes I feel the season comes a tad too fast and everyone decorates too soon. 1. Smells Like The Holidays

This is a simple and straight forward idea that takes a quick pickup from the store or online buy to make happen. Get some candles, they are great to mood set any home and bring us a reminder that Winter is here and so are all the festivities. The association of pine or a candy cane can completely flip the room while being completely invisible!+

  2. White Lights & Red Furnishings

If you have a little bit of a budget, a nice way to get the house looking good this season is to simply light it up! It get so dark this time of year so fast and keeping everything lit up will make the magic happen in your home! White light strips or any kind of hanging light that gives off that clean white look is perfect for your home. To top it off, adding red pillows or blankets to your living areas and covering tables in red cloth can add a lot with a little. Red is a pretty dominate color so you won’t need much to make everyone feel like they’re home for the Holidays!

  3. Put a Wreath On It

Simple but a classic, the wreath, although they’ve gained popularity in almost all seasons this one takes the cake as one of the number one décor items for the Winter season. If you can get yourself one with good battery powered lighting for the front door, you can let the whole neighborhood know you’re waiting for St. Nick! If you can’t find any battery powered ones, we suggest finding a timer plug that allows you to set it for night only, or you’ll be outside turning this one off every night!

  4. Music to my Ears

This one is fairly clear to us, because it’s super easy to access. Christmas tunes! From Jingle Bell Rockin’ on the Radio or being the Drummer Boy on Spotify or Apple Music, you can set the mood fast with music. Most platforms have playlists they update on their subscription that saves you the heavy lifting all without the advertisements. We suggest you make your own playlist though and be your own festive DJ this season! Mixed with the lighting and candles, there’s no way anyone could feel like a Scrooge!

  5. Chestnuts Roastin’ by an Open Fire

Last but not least, bring the warmth to the room with a natural fire. Of course this might be mandatory in your home if you use it as your main source of heat, but this could also be propane fueled for aesthetic as well. This is becoming extremely popular as a secondary option for heat while also giving off a nice look to your home. We might even suggest getting one of these in your style (modern, rustic, classic) in your home for the upcoming years! If neither of those options work, there are plenty of fireplace simulators online that look like the real deal without the warm heat!

Making Your Home Cozy This Winter

Here’s the question, how can you make your home more cozy this Winter, without spending a fortune?

There’s a ton of ways you can do this, without doing a lot of work, a lot of shopping or breaking the bank. We have a few ideas below that might help you out!

Your Ceiling Fans Have a Switch

Most ceiling fans have a switch to direct air two ways, up or down (if that wasn’t obvious). The reason for this feature is to allow the airflow in the Summer to be lifted up and out since we want hot air OUT of our hangout areas. On the other hand, we have the ability to push air downwards, where we bring all the warm air to the floor in hopes of warming the room a tad. All you need to do is flip the switch and make sure the fan is spinning clockwise.

Moving Furniture

This one might seem like a lot of work depending on the circumstance but for some it’s well worth it (and absolutely free). Moving couches closer together will bring a more cozy feel to your living space first and foremost, which brings family and friends all closer together for the season. Being aware of where your windows and external doors is important as well, be sure to move your furnishing away from these spots to avoid cool drafts. If you have a heater or fireplace as well, now’s the time to move your furniture closer to enjoy the warmth of your fire or heaters.

Area Rugs

This is a simple one, and it will cost a little bit of money if you don’t currently own any. This is more for the homes full of hardwoods and tile rather than carpet. It’s a nice refreshing look while also padding your high traffic areas and providing softer cushions for your feet. This will keep your feet warm as well in areas like around the sink of your kitchen.

Humid Air Feels Warmer

Get yourself a humidifier, according to some research we did, humid air feels a bit warmer. If you currently own one, you’re in luck, if not, a small household one will do the trick. Always make sure you read the details of what you’re getting so it doesn’t blow a scent or something over the top fancy that might be harmful to children or pets!

Let The Sun Do The Work

This is a great one to utilize. It’s like using solar energy without the panels on the roof. Open your windows on the south side of your home to let the warmth of the sun in. At night be sure to cover them with curtains if you have them to bring an extra light wall into play to lower the amount of drafts coming in.

Summary

All in all, there’s other ways to cozy up your home we’re sure. These few options are a nice blend of creating some nice looks to the warm feels we all know and love in the Winter. If you have any ideas yourself, feel free to share them with us, we’d love to hear what you do to cozy up in this chilly season!
